The house of unity in Riga stimulates exchange of Christians in Europe. Share real life, not as tourist, but as insider. Go into the mysteries of faith, into reality of history, into different worlds of church cultures.
This house is founded on the hospitality and inspiration of Latvian youngsters and by two Dutch priests:
Stefan Schevers and Jacques Grubben.
Ecumenical youth centre ”Vienotības māja” – „House of unity”
Youth exchange: intercultural & ecumenical Intercultural
Stimulate unity by complementary relation between countries in Europe with a focus on community based intercultural exchange between Latvia and the Netherlands.
The goal of the house of unity to stimulate cooperation with different christian youngsters. Organising different cultural events can stimulate unity inspired by a Christian view on life. Through cultural events people are working together on a joint challenge or a mission. Hospitality is a keyword. Integration into daily life in which fruitfull connections grow. The main challenge is through artistic events, conversations, lectures, reception of guest, growing in friendship and mutual responsibility: For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.. (NIV Matthew 18,20)
Stimulating a culture of sharing real life, knowledge and ecumenical relations between Christians churches. Sharing culture and faith between christian churches. We build a joint mission in the world by faith as source of inspiration in the world. Living your faith is sharing expressing her beauty, trusting it empowers your daily life. Be who you are as unique person. Pray together, listen to the Bible as Word of life. Wisdom makes you not see life as an experiment of trial and error. It makes you understand you the Word is near, follow your heart… live in the Spirit of Jesus prayer for unity…
As a social and cultural project within the European union, we want to stimulate a culture of unity between Christian churches. This will be expressed by a more profound intercultural and historical reflection and exchange about the role of Faith in personal and social life. We want stimulate exchange of ways of Christian cultural expression. This is necessary to develop Christian youth-culture as empowering factor of creativity and citizenship. We stimulate training skills to stimulate creativity by mutual intercultural solidarity. This solidarity is motivated by a religious perspective on “unity”. The key element of this vision is based on the centralisation of relation and love as most specific for Christian life. This focus stimulates a life of integration of values and virtues, and is bases on the concept of “unity” as mentioned in the gospel of John chapter.17 vs.11
I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. (NIV John 17,11)
